Chantrey Vellacott DFK office celebrates landmark anniversary
One of Northampton’s longest established accountancy firms is celebrating 120 years in the town.
Chantrey Vellacott DFK, which has ten bases across the Midlands and South, can trace its roots back to 1788 and first opened for business in Northampton in 1893.
The firm is part of global accounting association DFK International and is one of the oldest chartered accountants in the UK.
It has been based at Cheviot House on Sheep Street in Northampton since 2011 following 23 years at Derngate Mews. Its original office was in St Giles Square and was later at The Drapery for 50 years.
Partner Elliot Harris joined Chantrey Vellacott DFK’s Northampton team in 1988 and is now Head of Office. He said the firm’s offering to clients across the region has grown considerably during that time.
“We’re delighted to be celebrating 120 years in Northampton and to still be going from strength to strength,” said Elliot.
“The practice was first established to serve the needs of the leather and footwear industries and was also one of the first auditors working across Northamptonshire.
“We’re proud of the specialist team Chantrey Vellacott DFK has in Northampton and it provides a tremendous service to local, regional and national organisations.
“Our clients in the region range from not-for-profit organisations through to manufacturing firms, and a large presence in the SME marketplace.”
Elliot said the firm provides a range of specialist tax, advisory and consulting services, on top of the traditional audit and accounting services and has also diversified into new markets, particularly new technologies.
He added: “In recent years we’ve added a new string to our bow with the success of the firm’s Research and Development Unit which is at the cutting edge of helping businesses working across many sectors to claim back thousands of pounds of tax credits.
“Like many areas Northamptonshire has faced big challenges in the last five years, and continues to do so.
“I do, however, firmly believe the region remains a good place to do business which is supported by the strong transport links. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our support to businesses across the area.”
