Kelly Coburn, Senior Tax Manager at Geffen Mesher, passes away at the age of 62
Geffen Mesher is saddened to announce the passing of long-time senior tax manager, Kelly Coburn, who died unexpectedly on May 3, 2017. Kelly got his start with Geffen Mesher (then Laventhol & Horwath) in 1978, and this would have marked his 39th year with the firm.
Kelly earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Oklahoma Christian College in 1977, and became a Certified Public Accountant in Oregon in 1980. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants. His primary focus was in the real estate industry, partnering with his clients on tax and business planning, partnership taxation, real estate transactions, and employee benefit plans.
Kelly was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in the early 2000s, he began reducing his time in the office in 2006, and worked entirely from home beginning in 2011 when he could no longer physically come into the office. “MS robbed Kelly of his ability to move, but his mind remained sharp as a tack and he continued to respond to technical questions quickly, as if he was still right down the hall,” says Michael Rompa, Managing Shareholder at Geffen Mesher.
“Kelly will be remembered as a very competent and dependable CPA,” says Billy Morgan, shareholder and long-time colleague of Kelly’s. “He was a kind and steadfast man who was an example to each and every one of us through the way he lived his life, and I have missed having him in our office in recent years.”
Beyond his work with Geffen Mesher, Kelly was a devoted family man and loved to spend time with his wife and three daughters. He also enjoyed a good mystery novel, and served as the Finance Deacon of Southwest Church of Christ in Tigard.
